About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this nursing role. It's not in a hospital; you'd be working out of residential programs in Mobile, AL, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Think of it as being the health coordinator for a caseload, making sure everything from doctor's appointments to staff training is handled. You're the go to medical point person for the team.

What you'd be doing

You'll coordinate healthcare services for the individuals we support. That means arranging doctor visits, issuing referrals, and following up on any medical issues.

  • Train staff on a bunch of necessary topics: medication administration, first aid, infection control, vital signs, and how to recognize signs of illness.
  • Manage infection control by identifying risks, reporting to a consulting physician, and putting preventive measures in place.
  • You'll attend interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews for each person.
  • A big part of the job is handling medications; administering them yourself when needed and supervising certified staff who do. You'll also oversee how meds are stored.
  • There's documentation to keep up with; you'll prepare and maintain medical records for everyone on your caseload.
  • Provide supervision and training for any Licensed Practical Nurses or less experienced RNs at the agency.
  • Be ready to provide first aid and handle emergencies.
  • The role involves some logistics too, like maintaining the nursing office supplies and transporting individuals to appointments when necessary.
  • You'll visit people at their homes if the Director asks you to.

The specifics we need

You've got to be a licensed Registered Nurse in New York State with an active registration. CPR and BLS certification is required.

  • A graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • We're looking for at least one year of experience as an RN delivering community based health services specifically to people with developmental disabilities.
  • A valid New York State Driver’s License is nice to have but not a deal breaker.
  • You need to read, write, speak, and understand English clearly.

The practical stuff

The pay range is $48 to $52 per hour. You should be willing to work at different program sites around Mobile, AL as needed. And you've got to keep all client information completely confidential; that's non negotiable here. Familiarity with adaptive equipment like wheelchairs is important since you'll be working with folks who use them.
