About This Role
The Role
This is a pre sales technical architect role for our cloud business, RapidScale. You're the technical expert partnered with our sales reps. Your job is to figure out what a customer actually needs and then design a cloud solution that makes sense for them. It's about solving problems, not just pushing products.
You'll be focused on opportunities along the East coast. The travel isn't constant, but it's part of the gig; expect to be at conferences, partner offices, or customer sites about 25 35% of the time.
What You'll Do
- Act as the trusted technical advisor during the sales process.
- Run discovery workshops to dig into business pains and technical requirements. This includes things like Well Architected Reviews and migration assessments.
- Architect solutions based on what you find, using frameworks like AWS's Well Architected methodology.
- Build out cost estimates, labor projections, and Statements of Work for potential projects.
- Create technical collateral: presentations, high level designs, reference architectures.
- Hand off your proposed designs clearly to the implementation teams to make sure projects land successfully.
- Train and workshop with our sales and go to market staff on tech topics.
- Give feedback to our product team based on what you're seeing with customers.
- Sometimes you'll represent us publicly by speaking at events or contributing to blogs and white papers.
The Tech You Need To Know
AWS is your primary domain here. We need deep, hands on knowledge, not just theory.
- The AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification is required. No exceptions.
- You've got real experience with AWS migrations and deployments in a sales environment.
- A functional understanding of Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud is important too, plus traditional data center infrastructure.
- You understand IaaS/PaaS/SaaS platforms (like EC2, RDS).
- Containerization tech shouldn't be a mystery: Kubernetes, Docker, EKS, ECS.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Know your way around Disaster Recovery principles and data protection.
- A grasp of compliance frameworks like PCI DSS or HIPAA is helpful.
- The same goes for relational and non relational databases (think MySQL or NoSQL).
The Rest Of The Picture
Experience & Education:
A BA/BS degree plus 6 years of experience works. So does an MS with 4 years experience. A Ph.D. needs one year of experience. If you don't have a degree at all? We'll need 10 years of relevant professional experience instead.
The Soft Stuff:
A background working directly with a sales team is key. You've got strong presentation skills; you can explain complex things simply in writing and in person.
The Bonus Points:
A comfort level speaking at public events in front of big audiences will serve you well here.
The Logistics:
- The role is based in Manhattan, NY but supports the East coast region.
- Candidates must be fluent in English.
- The base salary range for this position is $155,200 - $232,800 per year.
- The exact rate within that range depends on factors like specific location within Manhattan, NY and your individual experience.
- On top of base salary this role has an annual incentive/commission target of $52, 800.
- Cox offers eligible employees flexible paid time off; take what you need with manager approval.
