About the Hotel

ROW NYC sits in the heart of Manhattan's Times Square. It's surrounded by 24 Broadway theaters, one block from Restaurant Row, and close to the Jacob Javits Convention Center, Macy's, Rockefeller Center, and the Empire State Building. The hotel just completed a $140+ million transformation of all guest rooms and public spaces. It has 1,331 newly built guestrooms with king, queen, double/double, and twin bedding configurations.

The Role

As Engineering Manager, you'll run the day to day operations of the engineering department. When the Director isn't around, you'll take over the administrative, financial, and operating aspects of the hotel as they relate to engineering. This is a hands on leadership role that blends technical skill with management.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement plans to keep the property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in a safe, acceptable state of repair.
  • Make sure the hotel complies with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Supervise and train all Engineering staff in Customer Service, Empowerment, Standard Operating Procedures, and Loss Prevention.
  • Create and post schedules for the entire Engineering team.
  • Build and stick to the annual budget for the department.
  • Help develop financial forecasts and join monthly profit/loss review meetings.
  • Create and run a preventive maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
  • Inspect, test, and certify all emergency and life safety equipment and systems per Highgate Hotel standards.
  • Participate in energy conservation programs.
  • Review guest and meeting planner comment cards to spot problems and get them fixed quickly.
  • Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Help administer all vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department.
  • Handle room maintenance requests in a prompt, courteous way.
  • Follow up on all alarms immediately to find the exact location and cause. Determine if there's an emergency, report findings to the Front Desk, and take action as needed.
  • Help with special projects and renovations.
  • Support and participate in all Highgate Hotel programs.
  • Lead or participate in the Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.

What You Need

  • At least 3 years of supervisory or lead mechanic experience in a hotel or a related field. A technical certificate with at least 1 year of that experience also works.
  • A stationary engineer's license if your local code requires it.
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance skills.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly ; lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects.
  • A warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Strong communication skills ; both verbal and written ; with every level of employee and guest, in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented way.
  • The ability to listen to, understand, and clarify concerns from employees and guests.
  • Multitasking and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
  • Attendance at all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Participation in M.O.D. coverage as needed.
  • Regular attendance per Highgate Hotel Standards, with a schedule that varies based on hotel needs.
  • High standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing a nametag.
  • Compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to keep the workplace safe and efficient.
