About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Server job in Madison, WI. It's with SSP America at the airport. I've been placing people here for years, and they run a tight ship. The restaurants close early, which is a huge plus if you're not into late nights.
What you'd be doing
You're the main point of contact for guests. That means answering their questions about the menu and making suggestions. You'll take their orders and put them into our system accurately.
- Getting dishes ready for service, like ladling soups, preparing salads, cutting desserts, and brewing coffee.
- Keeping an eye on your tables so you can anticipate what folks might need before they have to ask.
- Clearing dishes and resetting tables after each course is finished.
- Handling the payment process from start to finish; that includes cashing out checks, accepting payments, and balancing your drawer at the end of your shift.
The basics we need from you
We're looking for someone who's done this before. You need at least one year of experience as a server in a restaurant.
- A high school diploma is nice to have, but it's not a deal breaker.
- You have to be able to communicate clearly in English, both talking with guests and reading orders back.
- Basic math skills are non negotiable. You'll be running a register, making change, and handling cash drops.
- A food handler's permit is required by law, so you'll need that or be willing to get it quickly.
- Any brand specific certifications needed will be provided after you're hired.
You should know your way around a POS system to ring orders in and close checks. And you've got to be comfortable on your feet in busy spaces for full shifts. A good memory helps too; you'll need to learn the menu inside and out to talk about it with customers.
The schedule & pay
The base pay is $6 an hour plus your tips. Servers here typically average over $25 an hour when tips are included. Schedules are predictable and most locations are closed by 9 PM. You'll get extra pay for any holidays you work.
Benefits they offer
- The company pays 90% of the premiums for medical and vision insurance plans.
- Your life insurance premium is covered 100% by SSP.
- There are real paths to move up if you're interested in building a career here.
A quick note from them: SSP America provides reasonable accommodations during the application process if you need them. Just ask.
