Ultrasound Technologist

ChenMed·Louisville, KY

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Ultrasound Tech role at ChenMed in Louisville, KY. We're a different kind of primary care provider, and we're growing fast. That means we need people who are good at what they do and genuinely care about the work. If you're the kind of tech who wants to see the direct impact of your skills on patients' lives, this might be your spot.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll run the show for diagnostic ultrasound procedures. That means operating the equipment, selecting the right transducers, and adjusting settings to get the images we need. You're responsible for producing clear diagnostic imaging using 2D, spectral Doppler, color flow Doppler; the whole toolkit.

  • Your day involves echocardiography/cardiac ultrasound, vascular studies, and general ultrasound exams.
  • A big part of the job is working directly with patients. You'll explain procedures clearly and address their concerns before starting.
  • After each test, you'll key patient data and findings into our computer system to keep records accurate.
  • You'll generate detailed preliminary reports from your findings.
  • If something urgent comes up (STAT findings), you know how to communicate it quickly following our specific processes.
  • Getting proper patient consent is part of it; you'll make sure those documents make it into the medical record.
  • Sometimes you'll assist physicians during ultrasound guided biopsies or other invasive procedures.
  • Keeping the equipment in top shape is on you too. That means monthly maintenance checks per manufacturer specs and industry standards.

The rest of it? You'll help transport patients when needed, follow all safety and infection control protocols (standard precautions, PPE), and be willing to travel to different local office locations as required. And you'll have a hand in shaping how we do things by helping create standard operating procedures for ultrasound best practices.

The Skills & Experience You Bring

First off, you're a graduate from an accredited school in Ultrasound Technology. That's required. A Bachelor's degree in a healthcare related field would be a nice bonus.

  • You need at least six months of related work experience after your internship or externship. If you've got two years or more post training experience, even better.
  • Crucially, you must be registered in the specific ultrasound modality you perform; like vascular or general. For echocardiograms specifically, you must hold either a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential.
  • A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is mandatory. If you don't have it on day one, you need to get it within your first 90 days of employment.

A Few More Things About How You Work

This isn't a job where someone watches over your shoulder all day. We need someone with solid critical thinking skills and good judgment who can work with minimal supervision. The environment here is busy; things move quickly sometimes.

  • Customer service matters here; effective listening is key because you're dealing with patients and families every day.
  • The physical side is real: frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving around rooms are all part of it so does lifting patients or equipment up to 50 pounds occasionally

The travel piece isn't huge but it's there; expect local or regional travel up to 40% of the time between our offices.
