About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this driving job. I've been placing drivers with McLane for a long time, and they run a solid operation. This isn't just about moving a truck from point A to B; it's handling deliveries for some major national brands. They've been around for over 130 years, and that doesn't happen by accident. It happens because drivers show up, do the job right, and get home. If that sounds like your kind of workday, read on.
The Work
You'll be on a dedicated route out of Louisville, KY. The schedule is built around a four day workweek on the third shift. You're making off hour deliveries to customer locations.
- Start and end every trip with a full inspection of your tractor trailer. You'll need to complete the DOT inspection report on its condition.
- Before you head out, double check your bill of lading and any store keys for accuracy.
- The driving part is more than highway miles. It takes skill to maneuver a rig on the road and at customer premises.
- Your driver log; whether it's manual or through their Peoplenet system; has to be kept current per DOT rules. That means logging each delivery receipt, product temperatures, and any exceptions.
- At the stop, you're unloading the trailer and getting the product inside. You'll use equipment like side lift gates, small pallets, and electric pallet sleds to make it happen.
- There are other duties as assigned, but that's the core of it.
What You Need To Bring
They're pretty clear on the must haves. Here’s the list:
- You need to be at least 21 years old.
- A valid Class A CDL is required.
- They want to see at least one year or 50,000 verifiable miles of tractor trailer experience.
- Your Motor Vehicle Record has to meet McLane's risk rating qualifications.
- This one's important: you have to be able to read, write, and understand English well enough to handle work instructions, safety protocols, and essential communications safely. It's directly tied to doing the job right and keeping everyone safe.
The Details & Benefits
This is where it gets good. The pay structure is straightforward and they get you benefits from day one.
- The pay rate puts drivers between $80,000 and $90,000 annually. Their top earners hit up to $110,000.
- There's a sign on bonus too; up to $10,000 depending on your experience level.
- Your medical, dental, and vision insurance start on day one.
- You also get company paid life insurance and can enroll in FSA or HSA accounts from the start.
- Paid holidays are part of the package. You begin accruing vacation time and sick leave immediately.
- After 90 days, you're eligible for their 401(k) with a profit sharing plan.
- The extra stuff matters: pet insurance options maternity/paternity leave employee assistance programs various discount programs even tuition reimbursement down the line
