Psychiatrist

Jobot·Los Angeles, CA

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this psychiatrist role in Los Angeles, CA. I've been placing docs for over a decade, and this one's different. It's not your typical clinic gig. You'd be working with a large, established social services agency whose entire mission is ending homelessness. They run housing programs, outreach, substance abuse treatment; the whole spectrum. Your work would directly support people who are homeless, at risk, dealing with mental or physical illness, survivors of domestic violence, and veterans. The goal is rebuilding lives, and psychiatry is a core part of that.

What you'd be doing

The clinical work is central. You'll assess patients, diagnose mental health conditions, and develop treatment plans that include psychotropic medications. A big part of the job is monitoring progress through regular follow ups.

  • Evaluating clients involves interviews with them and their families, physical exams, reviewing histories, and interpreting tests.
  • Your treatment integrates psychotherapy and medication management.
  • Collaboration is non negotiable here. You'll consult constantly with primary care physicians, therapists, nurses, and other providers to maintain an interdisciplinary approach.
  • You're a resource for the team, helping improve staff competence on psychosocial issues and crisis intervention.
  • There's documentation to handle for client records and for necessary communications with social services agencies.
  • And you'll stay sharp by participating in continuing medical education.

The specifics we need

This isn't a maybe list. These are the firm requirements to even get an interview.

  • You must have completed an ACGME approved psychiatry residency (or a combined family medicine/psychiatry program).
  • A current state Medical license as an MD or DO is required.
  • You need to be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • A valid DEA certificate is mandatory.
  • The agency requires you to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • They're looking for someone who gets advocacy and its role in mental health care.
  • You should be organized; they mention time management skills along with solid verbal, written, and computer skills.

Stuff that would make you stand out

If you have these, it's a significant plus. The work here often intersects with these areas.

  • Direct knowledge or experience in chemical dependency and substance abuse treatment is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Medi Cal documentation and its requirements would be a major asset.
  • Being bilingual in Spanish is also a strong preference for this community.

The practical details

The salary range for this position is $220,000 to $260,000 per year. It's a full time role within a large non profit organization where this position has high visibility. The benefits package is described as great. The impact is local and tangible; you're literally helping put roofs over people's heads while providing critical psychiatric care.
