Medical Lab Technician
About This Role
Hey, it's Alex. I've been placing lab professionals for over a decade, and I'm helping MLK Community Hospital fill a key role on their team. This isn't just another bench tech job; it's a lead position where you'll help run the show. You'll be the go to person for one of their technical sections or shifts, making sure everything from the instruments to the quality control is humming along. If you're a CLS who's ready to step up into more of a leadership and problem solving role, let's talk.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll own the operation of your assigned section or shift. That means you're responsible for keeping things standardized, accurate, and efficient.
- You’ll help select and validate new methods and instruments, then get them implemented.
- A big part of the job is ensuring test performance; checking linearity, precision, accuracy; and maintaining those parameters.
- Overseeing the quality control and proficiency testing programs is on you, including troubleshooting any issues that pop up.
- You’ll review the work of other CLSs and phlebotomists to make sure it meets standards.
- Keeping turnaround times reasonable by optimizing workflows is part of your focus.
- When equipment acts up, you’re the one troubleshooting it.
- Managing inventory for supplies and reagents in your section falls to you.
- You’ll help with scheduling, organizing duties for the team, and assisting the manager with performance evaluations.
- The Lab Director or Manager will have additional duties as needed to keep everything running smoothly.
What You Need to Bring
The hospital has some non negotiable requirements for this lead spot. Here’s exactly what they need:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Science.
- A current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license or limited CLS license is mandatory.
- They require at least 2 years of clinical laboratory experience. Having 3 years or more would be a strong plus.
- You need to be proficient with computers; most systems are digital now.
- Strong interpersonal skills are important because you’ll be training new hires and working closely with the team. Strong organizational skills are also key for managing all these moving parts.
