
About This Role
The Opportunity
MV Transportation is hiring an experienced floating Accounting Manager in Los Angeles, CA. This role isn't tied to one office ; you'll be assigned to different divisions as vacancies come up, so it's a good fit if you're comfortable moving between locations and getting things running smoothly wherever you land.
What You'll Actually Do
- Manage and supervise the payroll staff for your assigned division, overseeing the weekly payroll process from start to finish
- Prepare monthly client revenue invoicing for transportation contracts
- Work directly with Human Resources on new hires, employee status changes, terminations, and benefits ; including tracking medical, dental, vacation, sick, and holiday benefits
- Make sure everything stays compliant with corporate standards plus Federal and State legal requirements
- Prepare manual check requests for payroll and benefits adjustments
- Develop and recommend payroll and accounting policies and procedures, then help implement them so everything runs accurately and on time
- Submit and monitor accounts payable invoices for payment and accruals
- Answer questions from employees, the corporate office, and vendors
- Lead projects like CHP Payroll audits, Sick Pay and Health Ordinance compliance, Benefits Open Enrollment, and year end W 2 distributions
- Review preliminary and final financial statements with the General Manager and Regional Director of Accounting to ensure accuracy
- Handle month end and year end closing functions ; accruals, expense tracking, journal entries, variance analysis, and semi annual inventories
- Reconcile petty cash regularly, accounting for every expense, receipt, and dollar assigned to the division
- Provide financial support to the General Manager and local management team
- Work with corporate staff and vendors to keep payments timely and resolve financial statement or general ledger issues
- Review purchase orders, then investigate and reconcile any problems with purchase orders, invoices, and receipts
- Ensure compliance with all local union collective bargaining agreements
- Supervise the Payroll Clerk to guarantee accurate pay for every employee ; including pay rates, bonuses, allowances, and paid leave ; and help sort out discrepancies
- Attend operational and management meetings to understand division functions fully and give financial or accounting updates as needed
Reporting Responsibilities
- Work with division staff to prepare and compile monthly reports for the client and General Manager
- Run and investigate daily, weekly, and monthly reports the client and General Manager require
- Help with other reports as requested by the client, General Manager, and local management team
What You Need to Bring
- A B.A. or B.S. in Accounting, or at least five years of applicable experience
- Strong leadership skills ; you'll be managing people and processes
- Solid organizational and problem solving abilities
- The ability to juggle multiple projects and still hit your deadlines
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong technology skills, especially with Microsoft Excel
- Transportation industry experience is a plus, but not required
Compensation
Annual starting salary ranges from $95,000 to $111,425.60.
