About This Role

Structural Engineer – Mission Critical / Data Center

A full service civil and structural engineering firm is looking for a Structural Engineer who has real experience with mission critical and data center projects. This position lands in Los Angeles, CA.

About the firm

This company has been a fixture in Colorado since the 1940s. They do comprehensive civil, structural, and surveying work. Over the last decade they've grown steadily, opening six additional offices across the United States. The culture revolves around engaging projects, shared ownership, knowledgeable staff, and a serious commitment to quality. Their client list includes municipalities, public and private redevelopment entities, architects, homebuilders, state and federal agencies, land developers, and special districts ; both domestically and internationally.

What you'll actually do

  • Lead engineering and technician teams through every phase of a project.
  • Own the structural design scope; coordinate with internal teams and outside consultants.
  • Build project plans, schedules, and budgets from scratch ; then track them through completion.
  • Be the main point of contact for clients and contractors during design and construction.
  • Write and execute project specific QA/QC plans.
  • Mentor less experienced staff so they grow into stronger engineers.
  • Attend project meetings to represent the firm on design decisions and construction progress.
  • Cultivate long term client relationships that keep work coming back year after year.

The specifics you need to bring

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program. Non negotiable.
  • 9 years of progressive engineering experience. One twist: an MSCE or MSAE counts as 1 year toward that total. Passing the 16 hour SE exam also counts as 1 year.
  • A track record of leadership that supports long term company growth ; not just managing tasks but developing people too.

What they'd love to see (but won't rule you out without)

  • Deep experience designing projects from initial concept all the way through construction close out.
  • Sharp internal and external communication skills ; because clients don't want emails that sound like robot drafts.
  • Strong project management chops; this isn't just technical work, it's people and process work too.
  • The ability to perform under pressure when deadlines pile up (and they will).
  • A proven handle on confidential information ; discretion matters here more than most roles because of sensitive client data involved in these projects.

The pay range

$150,000 to $180,000 per year. That's what this role pays based on experience level going in.. And there's more beyond salary: generous PTO plus holidays paid out separate from your hourly rate; flexible spending account options; health plan covering medical dental vision coverage bundled with disability insurance alongside parental leave policy plus tuition assistance reimbursement programs available for continuing education courses relevant career growth paths offered here... PE license exam fees covered completely by employer along with membership dues renewals handled internally too ; plus access onsite gym facility at headquarters location where hybrid schedule arrangement lets split week between remote work days office presence depending project needs meeting schedules etcetera...

(That last paragraph got conversational fast didn't it? Anyway; )
