About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Maintenance Supervisor opening in Little Rock, AR. This isn't a desk job where you're just managing spreadsheets. You'll be on the floor, in the mix, leading the crew that keeps a major sawmill running. Think big equipment: De Barkers, Gang Edgers, Trimmers, Sorters, Stackers. The whole line.
What you'll be doing
Your main focus is keeping people safe and the equipment humming. It's a hands on leadership role where your decisions directly impact safety, cost, and production.
- Lead the safety culture for your crew and any contractors on site. That means owning lock out procedures, verifying Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA), and conducting safety audits.
- Troubleshoot machine centers alongside shift supervisors and maintenance staff to hit production and quality targets.
- Plan non emergency maintenance and coordinate preventative maintenance (PM) routes to minimize downtime.
- Supervise maintenance and cleanup personnel across varying schedules. You'll also handle scheduling and attendance.
- Manage departmental costs aggressively to control the manufacturing unit cost. You'll develop and track key metrics.
- Mentor apprentices; arrange their West Fraser training programs.
- Create and plan improvement projects from start to finish.
- Work with the purchaser on parts management and inventory.
- Inspect completed work to ensure it's up to standard.
- The schedule includes periodic weekend coverage. It's part of the job.
The background you'll need
We need someone who knows industrial machinery inside and out, not just from an office window. Your experience is the foundation here.
- A prior Journeyman ticket as an Electrician or a Millwright is required. That practical trade knowledge is non negotiable.
- You've got at least five years of industrial experience under your belt. More is better.
- You're proficient with Microsoft Office and you're naturally well organized.
- Your leadership and communication skills are solid; you can manage conflicts, communicate goals clearly, and develop your team.
- A two year or four year degree is preferred but not mandatory if your experience is strong.
- Prior supervisory experience is also preferred.
The package
West Fraser puts its money where its mouth is when it comes to taking care of people. Benefits kick in on Day 1.
- A competitive starting pay rate that reflects your skillset.
- Full medical and dental coverage from your first day.
- A 401k plan with a company match to help you save for later.
