What you'll be doing
This is a 14 week travel assignment for a Speech Language Pathologist in Lincoln, NE. You'll be evaluating, diagnosing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders for patients of all ages. That covers speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing issues.
You'll use standardized assessments and clinical observation to figure out what's going on with each patient. From there, you design personalized therapy plans based on their goals and what the evidence says works. You'll track progress, adjust treatments when needed, and keep detailed notes in the electronic medical record.
A big part of the job is educating patients, their families, and caregivers on communication strategies, home exercises, and safe swallowing practices. You'll also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate care. Keeping a safe treatment environment is important too ; you'll follow infection control protocols and safety guidelines while making sure patients are comfortable during sessions. You'll also take part in quality assurance stuff and professional development to stay current. And yeah, you'll handle other duties that fall within your scope of practice.
Who this gig is for
A skilled SLP who holds a valid Speech Language Pathologist License per state regulations. You need a current BLS certification from AHA or ARC. A Master's Degree or higher in Speech Language Pathology is the standard. A current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology is preferred but not required to apply. We welcome new grads ; prior SLP experience isn't a dealbreaker, though it's preferred. Other certifications or licenses might be needed for this position, and those will be discussed during the process.
You've got to have critical thinking skills, a service oriented mindset, and solid interpersonal communication. You need to read, write, and speak English fluently. You should be comfortable with written instructions, verbal instructions, and basic PC skills. Physically, you'll need to stay stationary for periods, move around, lift and move equipment up to 50 to 100 pounds, push, pull, and bend. Interpersonally, you work well with all kinds of people ; professional and ancillary staff ; and keep a positive, professional attitude. You need the motor skills to grasp, do fine manipulation, push/pull, and move around during procedures or when using department equipment. Mentally, you handle frequent contact with the public and customers, work under pressure and deadlines, sometimes with close supervision, sometimes without help from others. You cope with irregular activity schedules and need continuous concentration and attention to detail. Good visual acuity and the ability to communicate effectively are required.
