About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this opening. We're a law firm in Ohio with a solid name in workers' comp defense, labor law, and insurance defense. The work is serious, but the place isn't stuffy. We're looking for another attorney who knows their way around a workers' comp case file.

What you'd be doing

The core of it is defending employers and insurance carriers in workers' compensation cases. You'll handle the litigation from start to finish.

  • You're representing clients before courts, arbitration panels, and state agencies.
  • A big part of the job is drafting: pleadings, discovery, motions, briefs. The whole stack.
  • Negotiating settlements is key; you'll be the one at the table advocating for our clients.
  • You'll manage paralegals and support staff to keep cases moving on schedule.
  • There's regular communication with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel. It's constant.
  • Staying current on changes in workers' comp law and broader labor regulations isn't optional; it's part of the practice.
  • We also expect you to participate in business development. That means networking events, client meetings, helping with proposals.

The background we need

This isn't an entry level spot. You need to have been doing this specific work for a while.

  • A J.D. from an accredited law school is required.
  • You must have at least five years of experience focused on workers' compensation defense litigation.
  • An active license to practice law in Ohio is non negotiable.
  • Your legal research and writing skills have to be sharp. Really sharp.
  • We need someone who's been in hearings, arbitrations, and other dispute resolution proceedings regularly.
  • A deep understanding of labor and employment laws goes hand in hand with the workers' comp focus.
  • You should know how to manage a high volume caseload without missing deadlines. It's just the nature of the work here.
  • Being proficient with legal research software and other legal tech is part of the job now.
