Clinical Quality Specialist
About This Role
What You'll Do
You'll work with inpatient medical records ; both concurrent and retrospective reviews ; to evaluate how acute care services are used and documented. The concurrent review part is key: you help make sure physicians document care accurately so patient severity and risk of mortality are reflected the right way. Some reviews come from internal decisions, others from external payers or regulatory agencies. Either way, your work plays a big role in reporting quality of care outcomes and getting accurate, compliant reimbursement for acute care services.
Where You'll Work
This role is part of Valley Health System Consolidated Services in Las Vegas, NV. The Valley Health System has grown a lot since Valley Hospital Medical Center opened in 1979. Today it's an integrated health network serving more than two million people across Southern Nevada. That network includes Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center, Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, Summerlin Hospital Medical Center, Henderson Hospital, Valley Health Specialty Hospital, and West Henderson Hospital.
What You'll Need
- An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing ; or you're an International Medical Graduate
- At least five years of clinical experience in an acute care setting; critical care, medical/surgical, or Emergency Department nursing experience is preferred
- Computer proficiency with word processing, databases, and spreadsheets
- Familiarity with basic office equipment
- A current RN license in the state where you live or practice (if you're a Registered Nurse)
- Knowledge of age specific needs and elements of disease processes and related procedures
- Strong, broad clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology and physiology of disease processes
- Working knowledge of inpatient admission criteria, the Medicare reimbursement system, and coding systems ; preferred but not required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid critical thinking skills
- You need to work independently in a time oriented environment; that's essential
