About This Role
Job Overview
This isn't desk work. A Fire Sprinkler Technician makes sure lives and property are protected when it counts. You'll install, inspect, test, and repair fire suppression systems across commercial and industrial sites in the Lansing, MI area. It's hands on, technical, and a job with real purpose; you're the reason those systems actually function during an emergency.
Duties & Responsibilities / JobXi / Lansing, MI
- System installation. You'll mount piping, hang sprinkler heads, and connect valves according to code. That means reading blueprints and working with your hands all day.
- Inspections & testing. Running flow tests, checking pressure gauges, verifying alarm connections; every system needs documented proof it works.
- Troubleshooting & repairs. Leaks at a joint? Valve won't trigger? Corroded pipe section? You'll diagnose the problem fast and get the system back online.
- Code compliance. NFPA 13, 14, 72 aren't just acronyms; they're what keep you out of trouble. You'll know them well enough to spot violations before an inspector does.
- Crew coordination. Sometimes you work alone on small jobs; other days you're part of a bigger team running pipe through a new warehouse build. Either way, clear communication matters on site.
Requirements / JobXi / Lansing, MI
- Experience: At least two years in fire protection or sprinkler fitting. Apprenticeship time counts if you've been under a licensed tech for big projects.
- Certifications: NICET level I or II is preferred but not always required; some employers will help you get certified after hire if you're solid on basics like pipe threading and hydrostatic testing.
- Physical demands: This is real physical work; ladder climbing up to forty feet routinely lifting fifty pounds or more bending into tight crawlspaces standing for long shifts in hot or cold weather depending where the site is today your body has to handle it daily without complaint
- A license and clean record: You'll drive between job sites in Lansing, MI. A valid driver's license and insurable driving history are non negotiable most places won't budge on that one
- A safety mindset: Hard hat steel toes gloves hearing protection every day no exceptions contractors watch who they keep because one mistakes sets everything back two weeks minimum
