The Gig
Saint Luke's North Hospital in Kansas City, MO needs a Radiation Therapist for their Radiation Oncology team. You'd work Monday through Friday, roughly 7:30am to 4:00pm (those times can shift a little), and you'd rotate call with the other therapists. No holidays, which is a solid perk.
And yeah, compensation packages have been bumped up recently, so that's worth noting.
What You'd Actually Do
- Perform radiotherapy treatments and simulations under the radiation oncologist's direction and the manager's supervision. This is technical work that doesn't need a lot of hand holding.
- Help develop new techniques and processes for simulations, treatments, new equipment, and new devices.
- Review each physician's treatment prescription and setup instructions, then deliver daily radiation therapy. You'd also schedule patients and keep their EMR accurate.
- Use imaging tech specifically for simulation, treatment planning, and treatment delivery ; think weekly ports, CBCT, and IGRT.
- Know the equipment and techniques for special procedures like SRS/SRT and Deep Inspiration Breath Hold, following department processes.
- Run daily warm up procedures on the simulators and linear accelerators.
- Stay current with continuing ed, the department's quality assurance program, and your licensure and accreditation.
- Show up to department meetings, help coworkers when you've got free time, and keep a flexible, positive attitude when things shift around.
- Follow all department safety policies and procedures.
- Provide compassion and emotional support to patients and their families. Keep a positive attitude with everyone.
What You Need
- Less than 1 year of experience is fine ; they're open to newer grads.
- An Associate Degree.
- Radiation Therapy certification from ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
