The Work

You're the surgical technologist in our Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR). Your main job is to be the first scrub on open heart cases. That means you're responsible for all the instruments, supplies, and equipment for the procedure. You need to know what's happening step by step and anticipate what the surgeon needs before they ask.

You'll also work as a second scrub when needed, assisting by handling retractors, suctioning, cutting suture, and managing the endoscopic camera. A big part of this is maintaining the sterile field; you have to be vigilant about it.

The patients you'll help care for range from adolescents (12 17) to adults (18 64) and geriatric patients (65+).

What You Need to Bring

• You must be a graduate of an accredited school for Certified Operating Room Technicians.
• A current certification is non negotiable. You need either your CST from the NBSTSA or your TS C from the NCCT, and you have to have it ready on day one.
• At least two years of experience in a facility of similar size and service scope.
• Specific, hands on experience with open heart procedures is required.
• You have to be competent enough to act as lead tech in Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, Burn, and Vascular surgeries.
• You'll need to get your Basic Life Support certification within your first 30 days if you don't already have it.

The Schedule & Where You'll Be

This is a full time position at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. We're a 585 bed hospital with a wide range of services, including our Level I Trauma Center, Stroke Center, and specialized cardiovascular programs. We're part of the HCA Midwest Health system.
