About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Senior Sales Executive role. It's based in Kansas City, MO, and it's for someone who knows how to build a business, not just take an order.
What you'll be doing
You're the main point of contact for your accounts, handling everything in the Powell catalog. That means generating new sales and growing the existing ones. A big part of your week will be spent face to face with customers, really getting how their business works so you can put together solutions that fit.
- Find new sales prospects and manage relationships with current and potential clients.
- You'll deliver product presentations at customer sites, conferences, and trade shows.
- Coordinating support from different parts of the Powell organization for your customers is key.
- Developing sales materials and keeping your product knowledge sharp comes with the territory.
- Following up on leads and referrals to build your pipeline.
- Creating action plans, detailed equipment proposals, and reviewing sales contracts are all part of the process.
- You'll help run marketing events like seminars and help resolve any client concerns that pop up.
- Keeping a variety of sales status reports updated; activities, closings, follow ups; is required by the department manager.
- Assisting with company marketing plans when needed.
- Managing accounts means continuous quality checks and follow up. You'll also keep all your account info current and accurate in the Sales CRM software.
The background we need
We're looking for at least five years in a Technical Sales or Marketing role. Alternatively, a combination of five years in electrical engineering and sales or marketing works too. You've got to have a working knowledge of electrical products and their applications.
- A solid understanding of NEC, ANSI, and IEC power distribution equipment application standards is necessary.
- You need to be able to read blueprints or plans to identify electrical equipment like switchgear and circuit breakers.
- A proven history with estimating, negotiating, and responding to both commercial and technical clarifications on projects is essential.
The skills that make a difference
It's more than just knowing the products. You need to understand how capital projects work from the inside out; the decision drivers, how projects are staffed, who influences purchasing. You should know all parts of an integrated project: Powell manufactured items, intelligent devices, communications gear, major buyout items. Leading customer negotiations on commercial terms is part of the job; you'll also facilitate negotiations on legal terms alongside our corporate counsel. Familiarity with revenue recognition requirements helps. And you should have a good handle on who our competitors are and what market level pricing looks like for different solutions.
The usual stuff matters too: excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; solid computer skills; good work planning abilities.
A heads up: this position requires travel out of town for training sessions or meetings.
