Alright, let's talk about this driving job in Kansas City, MO. It's not just a route; you're the last link in getting food from suppliers back to the warehouse. You're the one making sure it gets where it needs to be, on time and intact. That's a pretty important job.

The Work

You'll be driving a tractor trailer, day cab or sleeper, on local and over the road routes to pick up loads from suppliers and bring them back to our warehouse. Your schedule is Monday through Friday, but the days can be long. You'll dispatch between 4am and 8am, and shifts can run up to 14 hours.

  • Plan on being away from home overnight about two days a week. The over the road schedule varies based on what we need.
  • Drive your assigned route to vendor locations and our own PFG warehouses according to the schedule.
  • Your main goal is timely pick ups, making sure we get the right product loaded and delivered back for inventory.
  • That means checking loads and paperwork thoroughly; product counts, invoices, quality checks; all of it.
  • You've got to fill out all the required backhaul paperwork accurately and legibly.
  • Stay in touch with your direct supervisor about your route, load status, and any schedule changes.
  • Let them know right away if there are issues with a pick up or drop off.
  • At the end of your shift, secure all your equipment and wrap up any necessary paperwork.

What You Need To Bring

We need someone who can handle the schedule and the physical side of the work. Here are the specifics:

  • A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A).
  • You must be at least 21 years old.
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • You need at least six months of commercial driving experience.
  • A clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the last three years is mandatory.
  • You have to meet all state licensing requirements where applicable.
  • A current DOT Health Card, or you must be able to get one.
  • Passing a road test is part of the process.
  • The job requires passing a post offer drug test and criminal background check.

The Physical Side & Schedule

This isn't a desk job. You'll be moving product by hand throughout your shift using equipment like two wheelers and lift gates. Cases usually weigh between 10 and 35 pounds, but you could be handling items between 60 and 90 pounds depending on the location. Be ready for that. The core schedule is Monday through Friday. Remember, you're dispatching early in that 4am 8am window, shifts can go long (up to 14 hours), and you should expect an overnight layover about two days a week.
