About This Role

Hey there. I'm putting this post together for a CVOR RN position at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. It's a big hospital, over 585 beds, part of HCA Healthcare. They're offering a $20,000 sign on bonus for experienced RNs who are eligible; it can't be combined with other bonuses or existing HCA loans.

The Work

You'd be working in the Cardiovascular Operating Room. The schedule is self scheduling or preferential scheduling, posted four weeks out so you know what you're getting into. There's an on call requirement during select non business hours.

Your day involves the full scope of perioperative nursing for cardiac patients. You'll evaluate them before surgery and handle their prep: IV therapy, pre op meds, verifying the surgical site. You're a key part of the safety process; participating in the briefing, time out, and debriefing according to hospital policy.

During procedures, you're monitoring the patient's condition, responding if anything changes. Afterward, you're educating both the patient and their family about their condition, the treatment they just had, and what needs to happen next for follow up care.

The goal is delivering high quality, patient centered care while managing evidence based practices. You're part of a dynamic team with surgeons, surgical techs, and other providers. They've built a culture of mutual respect among all surgical staff here and are constantly investing in new equipment; instruments, devices, better positioning tools; to make your work safer and more efficient.

  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
  • Provide education to patients and families about the procedure and peri operative process.
  • Handle patient preparation: intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, surgical site verification.
  • Participate in surgical site verification protocols (briefing, time out, debriefing).

  • Assess patient condition; monitor and document changes throughout your shift.
