What this role is all about

Milton Hershey School serves over 2,200 pre K through 12th grade students from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering them a cost free, career focused education. The school was established in 1909 by Milton and Catherine Hershey and remains fully endowed. With more than 12,000 graduates so far, it's still growing to reach more kids. MHS is looking for married couples to work as Full time Flex Houseparents. You'd live in an on campus student home with your spouse and provide care, guidance, supervision, and support for about 8–13 students living there.

It's not just a job ; it's a life choice that creates a structured, family like environment where students can grow academically, emotionally, and socially.

What you'll actually do

• Supervise and mentor students daily
• Manage household routines and student schedules
• Administer medications and keep an eye on student wellness
• Drive students to activities; plan and lead developmental and recreational stuff with them
• Lead daily devotions and take students to Sunday Chapel services (proselytizing isn't allowed)
• Oversee budgeting for the home and handle household reporting

The schedule you'll follow

When you start as a Flex Houseparent, you'll support different student homes across campus. You'll work nine consecutive days on duty followed by three days off. On weekdays you get unscheduled time while the kids are in school. Eventually you'll move into a Placed Houseparent role where you live with the same group of students in your own assigned home.

The actual compensation package

• $44,768 per person in salary (about $168,000 total couple compensation including free housing, meals while on duty, utilities)

• Relocation assistance plus paid training provided upfront

The qualifications that matter here

• A high school diploma or GED is required
• You need experience working or volunteering with youth in some capacity
• A valid U.S. driver's license plus willingness to get certified driving student home vans is required
• The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is needed now and then
