
About This Role
The Position
Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, KS is looking for a Sous Chef. This is a hands on role where you'll manage the kitchen when the Executive Chef isn't around. You'll oversee food prep, keep inventory in check, and help with scheduling and training the team. The pay range is $60,000 to $70,000 a year, and the schedule can be full time, part time, or flexible ; whatever works for you.
What You'll Do
You'll work alongside the Chef to run every food venue in the Lodge. That means directing how food gets prepared and presented, making sure everything looks and tastes right.
- Follow all local Health Department food preparation codes and regulations ; no cutting corners
- Help hire, train, supervise, schedule, and work alongside chefs, cooks, and other pack members
- Keep a good working relationship with hotel staff so everything runs smooth for guests
- Contribute ideas for new menus and menu items based on current food trends, what's popular regionally, and what makes money
- Audit food storeroom items using FIFO (first in, first out) to keep quality consistent and meet health code standards
- Do food prep for all fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, fish ; whatever the recipes call for
- Prepare all food items per recipe guidelines, tasting and adjusting for flavor with the Chef's help
- Keep the back of house area clean, presentable, and service ready
- Maintain enough dishes and utensils for cooking and serving, and keep everything clean and sanitary
- Check supply levels in back of house and replenish when needed
- Monitor equipment, do preventative maintenance, troubleshoot breakdowns, keep supplies stocked, and call for repairs as needed
- Ensure compliance with all food handling and sanitation regulations
What You Need
To be considered, you'll need these basics:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years working in restaurant kitchen(s)
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on business needs
- Pass a criminal background check and drug screen
It's even better if you have:
- Culinary education degree
- 1+ years in a restaurant supervisory or leadership role
- Training or experience with hands on equipment maintenance
- Prior kitchen experience in a hotel or resort setting
- A solid understanding of sanitation and what it takes to keep a food prep area clean
- Proven teamwork ability
- A professional image that inspires trust and confidence
- Enthusiastic and positive energy
