You'd be the Charge RN or Clinical Nurse Coordinator for the 4 West Medical Surgical Ortho unit at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. The shift is nights, full time, and you're the one ensuring everything runs smoothly when the sun goes down.
What you'll be doing
You're in charge of the shift. That means overseeing patient care, making sure policies are followed, and being the go to resource for your team. It's a mix of clinical leadership and operational coordination.
- You'll handle admission and discharge processes to keep patient flow moving without sacrificing care quality.
- A big part of the job is assessing and monitoring the quality of care on the unit, working alongside other managers.
- Fostering teamwork is essential; you'll collaborate with experts and other leaders to build an environment that improves patient outcomes.
- If there's a service issue, you lead the recovery effort. A patient first approach isn't just a slogan here.
- You'll help implement nursing initiatives like employee rounding and hourly patient rounds to boost engagement.
- Your input matters in hiring; you'll recommend candidates and help with training new staff.
- The role involves managing team dynamics, which can include recommending training, helping resolve conflicts, ensuring policy compliance, and contributing to performance reviews.
- You’ll assist with scheduling your team and managing staff labor to meet patient needs while staying within productivity targets.
- Keeping things running also means helping manage supplies and equipment, supporting proper inventory control.
What you need to bring
The requirements are specific. They're looking for an experienced nurse who's ready to step up into a formal leadership role on a busy med surg ortho unit.
- You must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher is required. If you don't have it at hire, you need to obtain it within 3 years of starting.
- A current RN license for the state where you'll practice or an active Compact/Multi State RN license is mandatory.
- You need a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- A current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Health Care Provider certification from the AHA or American Red Cross is also required.
- At least 2 years of prior Hospital or Acute Care RN experience is non negotiable. You've got to have that bedside hospital background.
- Formal leadership experience is preferred; they want someone who knows how to guide a team.
The schedule & logistics
This is a full time night shift position. Shifts run 12 hours, roughly from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. You'll need to be available for rotating weekends and holidays; it comes with the territory in hospital leadership.
