Financial Controller

The Role

We need a Financial Controller for our Irving, TX operation. This one comes with a built in career move: after 18 to 24 months of training here, you'll relocate to another Waste Connections location. It's a deliberate path, not a maybe.

Your days will revolve around closing the books each month, building financial statements for every operating location, and reconciling general ledger accounts. You'll also handle annual budgets, put together detailed income and expenditure reports, run monthly financial projection analyses, and do rate analysis and reviews.

Beyond the numbers on your screen, you'll manage the flow of accounting data to and from remote facilities. You'll evaluate internal controls and operating results ; comparing budget to actuals ; then present cost reduction recommendations to management. And you'll train non financial personnel on internal control compliance and accounting procedures. There are special projects as assigned too.

What You Need

• A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with at least 12 credit hours of accounting coursework is absolutely required
• A Master's degree is preferred; CPA or MBA is also preferred
• 1 to 3 years of experience as either a senior accountant or an assistant controller
• You must be willing to relocate within 18 to 24 months ; no exceptions on this one
• Solid written and interpersonal communication skills
• The ability to meet tight deadlines while juggling multiple priorities without dropping anything important
• Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel and related accounting business systems
