About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Surgical Tech job in the CVOR at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin. I've been placing folks here for years, and it's a solid team. The schedule's set, but you need to be ready for the call that comes with heart surgery. Here are the specifics.
The Role & Schedule
You're in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR). Your core job is supporting surgeons during procedures to make sure everything runs smoothly and safely for the patient.
- Setting up and maintaining a sterile field, instruments, and supplies.
- Helping get the patient ready, positioned, and draped.
- Passing instruments and assisting with hemostasis during complex cases.
It's a full time day shift. You'll work 36 hours a week, 7am to 7pm, Monday through Friday. There are on call requirements; that's just part of working in a CVOR.
What You Need to Bring
The credentials and experience aren't just checkboxes here; they're what let you do the job right from day one.
- A BLS Provider certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. You need to get this within your first month if you don't have it already.
- One of these is required before you start: Surgical Tech credential from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) OR from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- For education, you need one of these: a high school diploma plus 2 years of relevant experience; an Associate's or Technical degree; or 4 years of specific job experience.
And here’s the big preference: at least two years of experience specifically as a CVOR surgical technologist. If you've got that, your application goes straight to the top of my pile.
The Offer & Benefits
The base offer includes a sign on bonus up to $10,000 for this CVOR Pod position. The rest of the package is what Ascension does pretty well.
- Health coverage: medical, dental, vision, prescription plans with HSA/FSA options.
- Financial stuff: a 403(b) retirement plan with an employer match, disability and life insurance.
- Paid time off that's pro rated based on your hours, plus holidays.
- They help pay for more school through their Vocare program and offer reimbursement for professional development.
- Support programs for emotional well being and counseling.
- Family benefits like parental leave and adoption assistance.
- A few extras like optional pet insurance and transportation savings.
A quick heads up: specific benefits depend on your position, hours, and location. Your recruiter will give you the final details. All this is subject to change, but it gives you a good idea of what's on the table.
