What this role is all about
This isn't a typical physician gig. CAI needs a Program Director to drive Indiana's strategy for strengthening the rural healthcare workforce. You'll focus on expanding clinical preceptorship and training opportunities by improving collaboration, communication, and visibility across the state. It's a full time, hybrid position based in Indianapolis, IN.
What you'll actually do day to day
- Set up and maintain a standardized process for handling stipend administration.
- Develop program documentation, procedures, and keep a centralized database of participants and stipend arrangements.
- Work closely with legal, compliance, finance, and program leadership on the regular.
- Verify that people meet eligibility criteria based on program rules before any money changes hands.
- Make sure executed agreements are in place before stipend payments go out, and track effective dates, renewals, amendments, and expirations.
- Calculate stipend amounts according to approved agreements and coordinate timely disbursements.
- Watch for compliance with stipend terms, including service requirements, and resolve any payment discrepancies or program questions that come up.
- Keep payment schedules and audits current.
- Prepare monthly payment and utilization reports with budget updates.
- Maintain thorough records for audit and compliance purposes.
- Put together a yearly comprehensive review report for the Health Workforce Council.
- Provide data and documentation whenever it's requested, including tax reporting forms.
- Be the primary administrative contact for all stipend inquiries and give guidance to participants about program requirements.
- Coordinate communication with prospective and active preceptors.
- Support leadership with program analysis and recommendations.
What you need to bring
- At least 5 years of experience working with healthcare organizations, rural communities, training providers, or public health systems.
- A solid understanding of workforce development strategies, credentialing pathways, and how training programs get implemented.
- Knowledge of compliance, budgeting, and reporting requirements for state or federal grants.
- The ability to juggle multiple projects without losing track of details.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship building chops.
- Experience with CMS funded programs, federal grants administration, or large scale workforce initiatives.
- Familiarity with Indiana's rural health landscape ; hospitals, FQHCs, EMS, behavioral health providers, schools, and community based organizations is a plus.
- Experience collaborating with statewide associations, training institutions, or multi stakeholder coalitions is preferred.
- Knowledge of rural health delivery, care coordination, or health system transformation is a bonus.
Physical demands
You'll need to safely perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA. That means conducting repetitive tasks on a computer using a mouse, keyboard, and monitor. This is mostly sedentary work ; sitting or remaining stationary most of the time, with occasional movement around the office for meetings.
Pay and benefits
The hourly rate for this position is $60 to $63 per hour. Exact compensation depends on location, experience, and education. The benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus a 401k retirement account.
