The Role
This is a Maintenance SME position at our Indianapolis Bakery plant, working the 3:00 PM to 12:00 PM shift. You'll report directly to the Maintenance Manager. The pay is $44.41 an hour plus a $0.50 shift differential.
What You'll Do
You're recognized as an extension of management here, so professionalism matters. Your primary focus is continuous improvement of mechanical equipment and processes.
- Coach maintenance employees and pull in the manager when you need backup
- Guide projects like BDA, MPS, Root Cause Analysis, Risk Prediction, UPS, and safety incidents through to completion
- Act as a mechanic trainer ; you'll coach mechanics and correct their work when needed
- Prepare and lead meetings yourself
- Work alongside the Maintenance Manager, Production Managers, operators, and mechanics to troubleshoot equipment with urgency (keeping things running is the goal)
- Monitor and teach continuous improvement systems to mechanics on your team
- Participate in improvement projects including 5S, UPS, Kaizen, Breakdown Elimination, Defect Handling, Planning/Scheduling ; you name it
- Tackle 5S improvement for housekeeping and GMP around tools, shop safety, and equipment repair
What You Need to Bring
- A High School diploma or GED at minimum; either a 2 year degree in Industrial Maintenance or 5 years of maintenance experience will work too
- The ability to work independently while leading a team of mechanics
- Hands on experience with mechanical skills including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting
- Experience with electrical circuitry ; repairing motors swapping logic controls process troubleshooting that whole world
- A track record of diagnosing electrical and mechanical problems using blueprints repair manuals parts catalogs then creating parts lists with pricing from scratch
- The capacity to learn all plant operational equipment inside out ; every machine every process every quirk they've got
- Expert level comfort using shop tools like Lathe Mills precision installation tools and PdM tools

The noise level out on the production floor is loud most days ; you'll need safety glasses ear plugs hair net uniform and hard hat whenever you're in those areas While performing this job you're regularly around moving mechanical parts there's also exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals plus occasional fumes or airborne particles This role pays $44.41 per hour base rate with an extra $0.50 shift differential applied which bumps it up nicely . The scheduled shift runs from 3:00 PM straight through until midnight each day . This posting closes May 31st 2026 so don't sit on it indefinitely if this sounds right for you .
