The Role
This is a leadership position that sits at the intersection of business strategy and human capital. You'll work directly with the Area President and other senior leaders in Indianapolis, IN to shape how the business runs. It's not an administrative HR job. It's about driving real results through people strategy.
What You'll Actually Do
You will push key results for the area, plain and simple. That means sitting in the room with business leaders and bringing your HR expertise to operational discussions. You're not just taking notes. You're influencing decisions based on a deep understanding of how labor relations and employee dynamics affect the bottom line.
- Collaborate with Business Leaders to influence business strategy. You'll bring a clear picture of the employee and labor relations implications to every major conversation.
- Participate in key meetings where business strategy gets shaped. Your role is to link HR strategy to the actual business objectives.
- Work with HR and other teams to make sure new policies, plans, and programs are communicated and implemented consistently across the area.
- Drive improvement in overall team performance. That includes supporting employee performance improvement planning, counseling, and follow up. You'll also work with Area Staff to run all talent routines, like TAPP and STR.
- Conduct investigations on complex Employee Relations and HR matters. This is a core part of the role.
- Advise Area Leaders, in coordination with Region Leadership and Functional Partners, on tough employee relations issues. You'll manage risk effectively and participate in the termination approval process for the area.
- Support culture change initiatives and establish change management strategies for business events that affect human capital in the area.
- Work with Area Leaders to implement organizational structures that support business objectives. You'll complete workforce analysis for any RIF process and work with region leadership and legal to assess risk.
- Drive Employee Relations activities that promote a positive work environment and advocate for the associate experience.
- Facilitate and follow up on action plans from employee surveys, whether they're locally driven or come from corporate.
- Engage with Functional Partners and HR Centers of Excellence. This market has implications for Region and Company performance, so proactive partnership is essential.
- Provide insight to Region Leadership and the centralized talent management team on area specific training needs.
- Lead the HR team for the area. You'll coach and counsel other people leaders.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
Where You'll Work
You'll be based in an office inside Indianapolis, IN, but you'll also spend time in warehouse environments and at other domiciles. Travel is about 10%, mostly to those locations and events. You need a valid driver's license and your motor vehicle record must be in good standing.
Who You'll Work With
Internally, you'll work with the VP Field HR, Region HR Business Leader, Region President, Area President, Regional Functional leaders, Area HR, HR Functional teams, Legal, Communications, Operations Leadership, and Commercial Leadership teams. Externally, you'll interact with government agencies and external legal counsel.
Who You're Managing
You'll lead a team that includes HR Generalists and HR Coordinators. This isn't your first time leading an HR team, and you have the people leadership skills to prove it.
What You Need to Bring
This role requires a specific mix of experience and background. Here's what's non negotiable:
- A Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Resources, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of 7 years of Human Resources experience with increasing levels of responsibility. That includes support for senior level business leaders.
- Labor Relations experience is required. This isn't a nice to have.
- A proven ability to build relationships at senior levels and deeper into the organization.
- Direct experience leading an HR team.
- A valid driver's license and a good motor vehicle record.
- 10% travel.
What Will Set You Apart
These qualifications aren't required, but they'll make you a stronger candidate:
- A PHR or SPHR certification is strongly preferred.
- Experience in process based Employee Relations is a big plus.
- Experience in a labor intensive industry that depends heavily on employee and team performance.
- Multi site experience is preferred.
