About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job. It's not a desk job where you're just pushing paper. You'll be the main person running the show at a significant client site in Indianapolis, IN, handling everything related to their waste streams; both hazardous and non hazardous. The scope is big; we're talking about a site generating over $2 million in revenue. Your core mission is to make sure every single thing that leaves that facility, from profiling to loading drums onto a truck, is done safely, compliantly, and efficiently.
What you'll be doing
You're in charge of the team on site. That means managing daily tasks for up to 6 direct reports and providing oversight for another 10 20 employees and contractors. You'll coordinate their work, make sure they're properly trained and certified, and foster a culture where safety isn't just a poster on the wall.
- Oversee the entire logistics chain for waste transportation: scheduling, manifesting, and the physical loading of bulk materials and drums.
- Act as the primary link between our client and any outside vendors, resolving service issues and managing the contract.
- Work directly with the client to find and implement cost saving solutions.
- Identify potential risks; whether they're regulatory, operational, or financial; and develop clear plans to fix them.
- Handle the financial side of things: reviewing invoices, reports, and contracts to ensure we're meeting our obligations while also hitting our profit targets.
- This is hands on when it needs to be. You should be prepared to occasionally help with physical tasks like collecting or bulking drums.
The background you'll need
We need someone who knows this field inside and out. The basics are non negotiable.
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. If you don't have the degree, we need a high school diploma or GED plus at least 4 years of direct experience in this kind of work.
- On top of that education requirement, you must have 5 years of relevant professional experience managing environmental or waste projects.
- A valid driver's license is mandatory.
- Be aware that some clients require specific drug and alcohol testing before you can start working on their site. This could include urinalysis, oral swabs, or hair follicle tests.
What will make you stand out
The person who thrives here does more than just follow a checklist. We value an entrepreneurial mindset. You see problems as puzzles to solve and are always looking for new ways to add value for the client.
- Experience managing budgets with profit and loss responsibility is a huge plus.
- A solid background in project management principles is key.
- You've built strong relationships with customers and managed vendor performance effectively.
- The ability to build up a team, communicate clearly under pressure, make tough decisions strategically, and lead with strong business sense will set you apart.
- Mostly? We need someone self motivated who understands urgency without sacrificing quality or safety. You deliver results.
The details

This role also comes with an annual bonus target of 15% based on performance. A quick but important note on the work environment:
The official setting is a professional office at the client site. You'll use standard computers and phones. But this isn't purely an office job.
