About This Role

The Role

This is a Business Development Manager (BDM) position for Ryder's Fleet Management Solutions division. You'll be based in Indianapolis, IN, working Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. The core job is straightforward: find new customers in your assigned territory and sell them on Ryder's services.

You'll earn a base salary between $55,000 and $65,000, plus uncapped commission on top of that.

What You'll Actually Do

You're not just taking orders here. You'll plan ahead before going after any account, build a sales pipeline that keeps you ahead of your quota, and follow up on leads without being chased to do it.

  • Develop a pre sales strategy for each target account you go after
  • Build and maintain a sales activity pipeline that's big enough to meet or beat your quota
  • Respond to leads proactively, not just when someone reminds you
  • Represent the full range of Ryder's services, not just one piece of the puzzle
  • Work with ARs and CDMs to transition new accounts and uncover more sales opportunities
  • Partner with National Sales to generate opportunities within Indianapolis, IN
  • Make sure new customers get properly onboarded and oriented
  • Work with DSDs to develop DCC opportunities for each account
  • Identify what a prospect actually needs through real needs assessments, then build value based proposals that make sense
  • Keep adjusting your account selling strategies as you learn what works and what doesn't
  • Keep General Managers and CDMs in the loop about pending sales so they're not blindsided
  • Help transition sold accounts smoothly so nothing falls through the cracks
  • Handle the administrative paperwork and reporting that supports each account
  • Report sales activity to management the way they need to see it
  • Follow sales protocol and SOM compliance requirements
  • Build real working relationships with CBUs
  • Pull in resources from across the company ; MDS, Safety, Finance ; to open up new opportunities
  • Document account profile information for every prospect you solicit
  • Keep sharpening your sales skills, industry knowledge, and personal growth
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Need to Bring

These aren't wishlist items. You actually need them to be considered.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance and Accounting, or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of consecutive sales excellence ; meaning you've consistently hit your quotas in previous roles
  • Solid understanding of Ryder's product offerings, enough to represent the full spectrum to new customers
  • Ability to interpret financial data and understand what the numbers are telling you
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • You can create and maintain professional relationships at every level ; peers, supervisors, customers, everyone
  • Self motivation. This isn't a role where someone needs to push you to work
  • You work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to operate in a fast moving environment where things change
  • You're organized, can multitask, and manage your time without someone watching over you
  • You follow up on things and don't let details slip
