Security Specialist

MANTECH is hiring an Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) for work in Huntsville, AL. This role is about building security from the ground up; you'll design systems that protect sensitive networks and data. If you like working on the architecture side of cybersecurity, this might be a good fit.

What you'll do

  • Identify what information needs protecting inside an Information System (IS) and Network Environment
  • Define security requirements for those systems based on current cybersecurity rules
  • Design security architectures specifically for the IS and Network Environment
  • Create and develop cybersecurity enabled products meant to operate within that environment
  • Integrate or implement Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) into the security framework
  • Build and roll out security designs for both new network systems and existing ones
  • Make sure hardware, operating systems, and software applications all address required cybersecurity controls
  • Develop network security measures focused on confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non repudiation
  • Craft specific cybersecurity countermeasures tailored to the IS and Network Environment
  • Write interface specifications for these systems
  • Figure out ways to reduce vulnerabilities across the network and recommend component changes when needed
  • Ensure all system designs incorporate FBI directed cybersecurity vulnerability solutions as they come through

The person we're looking for has one of these experience levels:

  • A high school diploma or GED plus 14 years of relevant experience; OR an Associate's degree plus 7 years; OR a Bachelor's degree plus 5 years; OR a Master's degree plus 3 years.
  • A current certification: CISSP (or Associate), CASP CE, CSSLP, CISSP ISSEP, or CISSP ISSAP are what we need here.
  • Familiarity with tools like Tenable Nessus or Security Center, IBM Guardium, HP WebInspect, NMAP -- similar applications also apply.
  • A working understanding of NIST's Risk Management Framework (RMF) and the Authorization to Operate (ATO) process.
  • A current Top Secret clearance with eligibility to get SCI before starting. You will also need to be willing to undergo a Polygraph.

A little more about what stands out:

A degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or another cyber discipline is preferred but not mandatory if you've got the right experience mix already.

The physical part of this job:

Sitting at a desk for about half your time is standard. You'll occasionally walk around the office grabbing files or using machines like copiers. Working at a computer constantly is the norm along with other office gear like calculators. And sometimes you'll find yourself under desks or in server closets positioning equipment. You'll talk frequently with coworkers management and customers including giving presentations where accurate information exchange matters.
