About This Role

What you'll actually be doing

This role is about embedded software for defense systems ; specifically within the EO/IR Subsystem and Seeker Development portfolio at Leidos Defense Systems. You'll work on aerospace and military systems like manned and unmanned vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems.

Your day to day involves architecting, implementing, and testing embedded software for microprocessors, SoCs, and FPGAs. You'll go through the whole product lifecycle ; from conceptual development through detailed implementation to manufacturing, qualification testing, and post delivery support. And when things break during development or integration? You'll troubleshoot bugs, assess root cause for deficiencies, and figure out corrective actions.

You're also expected to partner with other engineers, developers, project managers, technicians, and customers to create solutions that meet a diverse set of requirements. This is a small team environment where you own your work.

What you'll do every day (the real list)

  • Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and debug software for enhancements to software intensive systems
  • Analyze hardware compatibility
  • Develop software products and tools used in design work
  • Build and maintain infrastructure and platforms
  • Troubleshoot issues found during development integration
  • Assess bugs for root cause and identify corrective actions

The basics you need to have

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent engineering/science degree with 4 8 years of experience ; or a master's degree with 2 6 years in a related field
  • Expert level knowledge of C++ as well as various microprocessor assembly languages
  • Experience with communication protocols like UART Ethernet SPI I2C CAN ; don't worry about the missing commas; we just want you to know these standards cold
  • A solid grasp of software versioning and release cycles
  • Hands on lab experience with instrumentation test equipment and debug/test methods for both software and hardware
  • The ability to work collaboratively across multi disciplinary teams ; that means engineers scientists developers project managers customers everyone involved in making this stuff happen on deadline without drama
  • The willingness to work onsite in Huntsville Alabama full time no remote option here unfortunately so pack your bags if you aren't already there
  • A DoD Secret clearance is required eventually but we can sponsor it if you don't have one yet; US citizenship is non negotiable because security clearances require it by law not just preference
