Territory Sales Manager

Jake's, Inc.·Houston, TX

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Territory Manager job. It's with US Foods, one of the big players in food distribution. This isn't just dropping off a box; it's about building real partnerships with restaurants and foodservice folks to help them run better businesses. You're the main point of contact.

What you'll be doing

Your day is about managing relationships and driving growth in your assigned territory around Houston, TX. You'll have a mix of keeping current accounts happy and finding new ones.

  • You own the customer relationship. That means menu consultations, showing them how to use our ordering systems, and recommending products and pricing that work for their operation.
  • The goal is to increase sales and bring in new business. You'll tailor your approach for each customer and deliver solid sales presentations.
  • A big part of the job is working with our Specialists, marketing, supply chain, and customer service teams. It's a team based model to make sure everything runs smoothly for the customer.
  • Finding new customers involves digging into market data, following leads, networking locally, and hitting trade shows.
  • You'll also keep an eye on deliveries, helping sort out any issues like shortages or scheduling problems.
  • Knowing what our competitors are up to; their products, their prices; is key. You'll use that intel to add value for your customers.
  • Get ready to drive. You're in your personal vehicle regularly visiting customers for check ins and follow ups.

The environment & qualifications

This isn't a desk job. You're out in your territory every day, so you're dealing with whatever weather comes your way. There are no direct reports; you're managing your own book of business.

Here’s what we need from you:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • You must have a valid driver's license with a good standing motor vehicle record.
  • At least one year of sales experience is preferred. If you've got background in foodservice, culinary work, restaurant management, or hospitality, that's a definite plus.
  • You need to be good at building relationships, both inside the company and out. Cold calling to develop new business is part of it.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills are non negotiable. You have to solve problems, stay organized, and negotiate well.
  • A competitive drive helps because there are goals to hit. But you also need a collaborative mentality to team up with specialists and other departments.
  • Being comfortable with tech is important; think Microsoft Office. Experience with a CRM tool like Salesforce is beneficial.
  • The role can involve occasionally lifting or carrying items up to 75 lbs.

The deal

The base salary is competitive but where you can really build earnings is through the market leading incentive program tied directly to your performance. They reimburse your mileage for all that driving around Houston, TX too.

The benefits kick in on day one:

    > Health insurance. Dental insurance. Vision insurance. Various 401(k) plan options. Paid time off. An employee stock purchase plan. Life insurance options. Short term disability coverage. Long term disability coverage. Pre tax spending accounts are also available.
