The Role
Memorial Hermann TMC needs a Senior Histology Technologist for day shift in Houston, TX. This isn't a entry level spot. You're walking into a lab where you'll prep tissues for examination and help run the department. You'll be the person in charge when the Lab Director isn't around, and you'll help develop new procedures when we need them.
What You'll Actually Do
About half your time goes to overseeing and documenting test results, quality control, maintenance, and corrective actions ; all according to policy. You'll also evaluate technical procedures, write new ones, and make sure you're competent across every workstation in the lab. That includes knowing the laboratory information systems inside out.
You'll mentor and precept other lab employees and students. Equipment issues? You're the person they come to for troubleshooting. Performance improvement, production efficiency, customer service ; you'll show leadership there too. You'll conduct staff meetings and in services. And you'll make sure we comply with TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, and CLIA standards. That's a lot of acronyms, but it matters.
You'll build relationships with hospital staff, volunteers, physicians, and patients ; whether it's answering questions about specimens coming into the lab or reporting results out. Customer service is part of this job. You'll recognize when someone isn't happy and work with them to fix it.
What You Need
- An HTL ASCP certification. That's required.
- Three years of experience as a Histology Tech.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities from your previous roles.
- Recent hospital histology lab experience ; that's the kind of background that works here.
- Experience with frozen sections.
- Senior or Lead experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
