Speech Language Pathologist
About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Speech Language Pathologist opening for the 26/27 school year in Houston, TX.
This is a full time, school based position. You'd be working with K 12 students, providing the assessments and direct therapy that help them improve their communication and fully access their education. It's collaborative work; you're teaming up with teachers, families, and other specialists to make sure plans actually work for the kid.
What you'd be doing
- Run formal and dynamic assessments to figure out eligibility and how a student is functioning.
- Put together treatment plans, coordinating with the interdisciplinary team.
- Provide direct speech therapy services that match up with IEP goals.
- Handle all the IEP paperwork; getting it done, keeping it compliant, and showing up for those annual and triennial reviews.
- Your job isn't just in the therapy room. You'll consult with teachers and families to help students use their skills everywhere.
- Notes, data, progress reports; keeping it all accurate is a big part of the day.
- If it applies, you'd also supervise and support any SLPAs on your team, making sure their supervision hours are tracked.
The essentials you need to bring
- A current Speech Language Pathologist license for the state where you'll be working. If you're eligible to get it right away, that works too.
- A cleared DOJ/FBI Live Scan background check and TB test. Non negotiable.
- You've got to be organized. And you need to connect well with kids, colleagues, and parents.
- Your writing needs to be clear for reports and IEPs; your verbal communication has to be effective in meetings and conversations.
A few things that would make your life easier here:
- At least one year of experience doing speech therapy.
- A Department of Education certification is a plus.
- Knowing evidence based practices and how special education programs run is helpful.
- Any past experience managing a school based caseload is great background to have.
The schedule & pay
This is a full time role for the upcoming 26/27 school year. The pay range is $47 to $55 per hour.
What you get besides a paycheck
- We help cover costs for your CEUs and license renewals. There's also tuition assistance available.
