What this role is
PetSmart is looking for a Retail Customer Service Supervisor (sometimes called an Experience Lead) for the store in Houston, TX. This is a full time position where you'll be the go to person for making sure customers, their pets, and the associates on your shift have a good day. You're not just ringing people up ; you're driving loyalty, pushing promotions, and keeping the store running smoothly when the other leaders aren't around. Overseeing safety, cleanliness, merch standards, and associate engagement all fall under your roof.
What you'll actually do
- Help train and coach associates, support their development, and give feedback on performance reviews, disciplinary stuff, and even promotions.
- Make sure operational tasks get done and that everyone watches the required engagement videos.
- Step in for the Experience Leader to support grooming, training, or boarding services when needed.
- Assign daily tasks and make sure they're completed.
- Lead the team when you're the Leader on Duty ; that means directing people, addressing complaints, and handling grievances.
- Recognize and celebrate associates to keep morale up.
- Interact with pet parents over the phone, in person, or online and deal with any concerns they have.
- Set up and coordinate store events like Adoptions, Vet partnerships, and Shot Clinics.
- Handle live pet sales and adoptions.
- Take part in monthly live cycle counts and fix discrepancies.
- Sell merchandise and services, recommend products, and promote customer facing initiatives.
- Prep online orders for pickup and make sure that experience is smooth and positive.
- Back up the POS system and handle cash transactions accurately, following company policy.
- Keep the store looking good and make sure everyone follows policies and the code of ethics.
- Watch for safety issues ; if a pet is sick or injured, you take immediate action and get them to the vet.
- Maintain cleanliness in the sales floor, training area, adoption center, breakroom, and restrooms.
- Help open and close the store to keep that brand promise intact.
- Work in other departments when needed and follow all company policies.
- Lift up to 50 pounds by yourself and occasionally team lift more than 100 pounds.
- Stand, walk, climb a ladder, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear all shift long. You need depth perception for this job.
What you need to bring
- At least 2 years of retail experience in a customer facing spot.
- Some leadership experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
- Full time availability ; that means evenings, weekends, and holidays are on the table.
- Comfort with computers and standard software.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- You can keep your cool under pressure.
- Good organizational habits and an eye for detail.
Who you'll be working with
You won't have direct reports, but you'll guide and support other associates. You provide feedback on their performance to the direct supervisor. And when no other leaders are in the store, you're the one calling the shots ; supervising, assigning tasks, and handling whatever comes up.

Physical stuff and environment
You'll be on your feet a lot, walking, climbing ladders, handling things with your hands, and reaching. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and hearing are part of the daily routine. You need depth perception. You'll lift 50 pounds regularly and team lift over 100 pounds sometimes. Occasionally you'll work near moving mechanical parts or in a wet environment.
