Radiation Therapist

About This Role

Radiation Therapist – Houston, TX

Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital needs a Radiation Therapist who can handle the full scope of planning, treatment, and patient monitoring. You'd be a core part of the radiation oncology team here, working directly with physicians and supporting staff to deliver total quality care. This isn't a role where you just push buttons; it's about juggling precision, patient trust, and radiation safety standards from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Radiation Therapy.

What you'll actually do

Your day revolves around delivering a planned course of radiation therapy accurately and safely, exactly as the Radiation Oncologist prescribes. That means:

  • Running simulation operations and choosing the right immobilization and positioning aids for each treatment session
  • Fabricating immobilization devices and custom blocks when needed, then documenting every step of the simulation process
  • Assessing each patient's condition, needs, and side effects daily; you'll provide education and clear explanations to patients and families using language they actually understand
  • Referring patients to the right resources when something comes up that's outside your scope
  • Following radiation protection principles for yourself, your patients, and everyone nearby
  • Keeping sterile techniques and aseptic practices tight, plus staying compliant with radiation safety and infection control procedures
  • Performing and documenting warm up procedures and machine operation checks per manufacturer, physics, and department guidelines
  • Entering, validating, and reviewing charges at the time of service so nothing slips through the cracks
  • Communicating with the whole care team about pertinent patient information in a thorough, organized way

What you need to get hired

You must be a graduate of an educational program approved by the credentialing body for the required certifications below. No prior experience is required ; we'll consider new graduates.

Certifications and licenses you'll need from day one:

  • CMRT – Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist, issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
  • Registration as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT GC)
  • ARRT THR – Radiologic Technologist in Radiation Therapy, from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor, from the American Heart Association

If you're a new grad, we might hire you before you have your ARRT (T) and BLS, but you'll need to obtain both if selected.

Also, you should be comfortable speaking, reading, and writing English well enough to handle patient and employee safety tasks. You'll need basic computer knowledge to run multiple systems ; Hospital and Radiation Oncology Information Systems, plus Office software for patient and exam documents. Adapting to multiple priorities with minimal supervision is part of the deal, and you'll be expected to jump into problem solving when things get busy.

Schedule and FLSA status

This is a non exempt position under FLSA. Your exact schedule will be discussed during the interview process, so ask about shift specifics then.

Pay and benefits

Compensation details aren't listed in the posting, so you'll want to bring that up when you interview. Houston Methodist offers a standard benefits package ; health coverage, retirement options, and paid time off are typical, but confirm specifics with the recruiter.
