Property Manager/Leasing

What You'll Do

This role touches every part of how we protect and grow our intellectual property. You'll work across patents, trademarks, and trade secrets ; coordinating with inventors, legal counsel, and business leaders to make smart decisions about what we protect and how.

You won't just manage a portfolio. You'll shape the strategy behind it.

• Work with product line leaders and engineers to figure out which inventions have real commercial potential, then recommend whether to pursue IP protection.
• Cultivate a steady pipeline of invention disclosures from DPC's engineers and researchers. Encourage them to document their ideas and guide patenting decisions from start to finish.
• Initiate and manage patent searches ; patentability, right to use, state of the art ; using both internal knowledge and outside resources.
• Liaise with outside counsel to prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications in key countries where the business operates. You'll also handle utilization analyses and right to use reviews.
• Track everything in our IP portfolio: patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Keep it organized so nothing slips through the cracks.
• Identify when prosecution decisions need to be made. Prompt those discussions. Then notify outside agencies once decisions are final.
• Build out trade secret identification programs that actually get used. Develop strategies for protecting what can't be patented.

Trademarks & Copyrights

The marketing team won't launch a new brand or product name without you. That's by design.

• Engage directly with marketing on branding strategies ; name clearances, filing strategies ; before anything goes public.
• Facilitate brand name clearance searches when needed. Support whatever legal steps come next for trademark protection.
• Consult decision makers when trademark choices arise. Then execute those decisions cleanly.
• File copyright registrations as needed for original works produced within the company.

Competitive IP Work

A good IP strategy doesn't exist in a vacuum. You need to know what competitors are doing too.

• Lead freedom to operate analyses for new products before development teams commit resources. Give them clear guidance on risk areas early on.
• Analyze competitor patent landscapes closely enough that you can spot trends before they become threats or opportunities, then share that insight back with R&D teams who can use it strategically during new product development so they don't waste time reinventing something already protected elsewhere while also finding white space worth claiming first ourselves legally speaking before anyone else does either domestically or abroad depending on market priorities at that given point naturally obviously but not overly complicated though since most cases follow standard patterns anyway after
