Physician Assistant

About This Role

What You'll Do as a Physician Assistant at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group

You're the kind of clinician who wants to practice at the top of your license. At Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group in Houston, TX, you'll work under the supervision of a licensed physician to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventative care. This isn't a one size fits all role. You could be in an inpatient setting one day and outpatient the next.

You'll examine patients, diagnose conditions, and decide on treatment plans. That means analyzing X rays and lab results, writing prescriptions, taking patient histories, providing surgical assistance, and ordering various forms of therapy. Some days you'll work independently under the physician's license. Other days you're part of a larger treatment team. Either way, you're acting within the Board of Physician Assistant Examiners in Texas guidelines and Houston Methodist policies.

Qualifications You Need

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program recognized by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • One year of clinical experience
  • A current Texas Physician Assistant license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV
  • A PA C certification from NCCPA
  • BLS or Instructor certification through the American Heart Association
  • ACLS or Instructor certification through the American Heart Association
  • A DEA Narcotics License within 6 months of hire

The Skills That Matter Here

You need to be proficient enough in English to handle all essential job functions ; especially anything touching patient or employee safety. That's non negotiable.

Beyond that? It's about judgment. You'll use critical thinking and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Board of Physicians Assistants. You accept accountability for outcomes ; that's just how you operate. You communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers with a customer service focus and positive language principles.

Therapeutic communication isn't just a buzzword here. You use it to build relationships with patients, families, and your interprofessional team so everyone collaborates on the plan of care.

The organizational piece is real: You've got strong problem solving skills because you prioritize multiple tasks and role components every shift without losing sight of what matters most. Time management isn't optional ; it's essential.
