Operations Manager
About This Role
Operations Administrator
This is the overnight leadership role for the hospital. You're the person in charge when most of the executive team isn't on site, making decisions that directly affect patient care and daily operations.
The schedule is nights, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, three days a week with rotating weekends. It's a full time position at 36 hours per week.
What you'll do
You're running the show from a clinical and operational standpoint. That means a lot of moving parts.
- Oversee patient flow; coordinate admissions, discharges, and transfers to keep everything moving smoothly.
- Handle staffing for your shift and plan ahead for the next one. You'll assign personnel and adjust as needed.
- Troubleshoot any problem that comes up, whether it's with patient care, family concerns, or facility issues.
- Lead by example in communication and professionalism. This involves coaching staff and ensuring policy adherence.
- Maintain awareness of all emergency codes and disaster protocols, coordinating the response if something critical happens.
- Partner with other departments like public relations for any outside media inquiries during your shift.
- Attend daily care coordination rounds to help facilitate patient progression through their stay.
What you need to bring
A specific set of credentials and experience is non negotiable here. They've built this role around it.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Five years of hospital experience in nursing. If you're an internal Houston Methodist candidate, you need four years of nursing experience here that shows progressive leadership, like charge nurse duties.
- A current RN license from Texas (or a compact license with plans to get a permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing residency).
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCRISIS) from CPI or as an instructor.
- A Magnet ANCC recognized nursing certification (this is a Houston Methodist requirement).
The environment & skills
The night shift has its own rhythm. You have to be comfortable working independently but know exactly when to escalate.
- You can communicate effectively with everyone; patients, physicians, families, staff; using positive language principles consistent with a service focus.
- Solving problems is second nature to you; you investigate causes and develop corrective actions without needing hand holding.
- Demonstrated success in resolving conflicts in a timely manner is crucial. Things happen fast.
- Flexibility and adaptability aren't just buzzwords; they're nightly requirements in this workplace.
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is required for activities impacting patient or employee safety.
