What You’ll Be Doing as a Nurse Supervisor at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital
This is a 24 hour operational leadership role. You’re the person who makes sure patient care runs smoothly across your assigned units ; in partnership with the Manager and Director. You’ll develop and push forward performance initiatives that directly impact patient safety, outcomes, and satisfaction.
You won’t just manage tasks. You’ll lead people. That means mentoring staff, coaching them through tough situations, and helping them think critically about their decisions. You’ll be involved in hiring, scheduling, retention, evaluations ; all of it.
You’ll also keep an eye on the bigger picture: department turnover goals, financial targets, supply efficiency, overtime percentages. And you’ll represent nursing in a positive way on committees and across departments.
What We Need From You
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing
- At least two years of nursing experience
- An active RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing (or a compact license ; if you’re establishing Texas residency, you have 60 days to get your permanent Texas license)
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (Instructor level also accepted)
- Magnet or ANCC Recognized Certification is preferred but not required

You need to speak, read, and write English well enough to handle essential job functions ; especially anything affecting patient or employee safety. Strong communication with patients, doctors, families, and coworkers is non negotiable. We use positive language principles here.
Candidates are assessed through ongoing skills checks and performance evaluations. It's not a one time thing; we want to see that you grow over time.
A Closer Look at Your Day to Day Responsibilities
People Leadership- Create a collaborative environment by mentoring staff and modeling teamwork ; both inside your department and between departments.
- Consult with department leadership on coaching and corrective counseling when needed.
- Conduct new hire feedback sessions and hand out recognition when people earn it.
- Tackle selection, scheduling, supervision, retention, evaluation ; yes, that's part of this role too.
- Make sure everyone on your team is properly trained and following policies.
- Help meet (or beat) the department's turnover goal threshold.
- Communicate clearly to resolve problems; teach others how to explain their reasoning for decisions.
- Smoothly manage daily flex team operations according to hospital policy.
- Proactively monitor unit coverage so management presence stays strong throughout the shift.
- Triage patient and employee concerns; take action yourself or escalate up when appropriate.
- Aim for high customer satisfaction while delivering top tier service every day.
- Catch problems before they start by monitoring workflow ; use peer accountability and collaboration to fix what's broken early on.
- Use teachable moments in real time to improve safety awareness across the team.
