Nurse Practitioner

About This Role

Alright, here's the deal. We're looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Houston, TX. This isn't just about filling a slot; it's about finding someone who gets what we do and wants to be part of it.

The Role

You'll be an Acute Care NP, which means you're the licensed provider handling everything from diagnosis and treatment to patient education. You'll see patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, working as part of a treatment team under the Texas Nurse Practice Act. A big part of this is communication; you're modeling compassionate care with patients, physicians, and the whole interprofessional team. That includes educating folks on preventative care and their treatment plans.

Your day to day will involve conducting physicals, ordering tests, acting as a primary healthcare provider for your patients, and prescribing medications when it's appropriate. All patient care follows our Houston Methodist Professional Practice Model policies.

What You Need to Bring

  • A Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • You must have graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • At least two years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, in advanced practice, or specifically as a nurse practitioner.

The Licenses & Certifications (Non Negotiable)

This list is specific. You need all of these to start or get them within the stated timelines.

  • RN license from the State of Texas (a compact license works if you obtain a permanent Texas license within 60 days of establishing residency).
  • A state license as an APRN in Acute Care.
  • The Magnet ANCC recognized Acute Care practitioner certification.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (or Instructor level).
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association (or Instructor level).
  • Prescriptive Authority (AP) from the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • A DEA narcotics license. You've got six months from your start date to get this one sorted.

The Work Itself: Essential Functions

People & Leadership
  • You’re a leader here; a clinical resource, a consultant for other professionals, and an advocate for your patients.
  • Spot opportunities for your colleagues to grow professionally and help coach them toward those goals.
  • Communicate administrative and clinical info clearly and positively.
  • Advocate for your team. That means promoting balanced workloads, positive behaviors, and holding each other accountable in a supportive way.
  • Collaborate with everyone on the healthcare team to manage patient care effectively.
  • Step in to identify and resolve clinical or ethical concerns on behalf of patients and families. Foster good relationships at work. Mentor Nurse Practitioner students and medical residents when applicable. Your role directly impacts our department's employee engagement scores through peer accountability.
