CDL-A Driver

What you'll do

You're the one who gets our cars from point A to point B. You'll use a company car hauler to move vehicles between our stores, auctions, vendors, and logistics hubs.

The job is about safe transport and accurate delivery. It keeps our inventory moving and customers happy.

• Safely load, secure, drive, and offload vehicles.
• Your truck and trailer need to stay clean and well maintained.
• Do pre trip and post trip inspections every time. They have to meet DOT and our own standards.
• Keep your DOT logs and paperwork accurate. No shortcuts.
• You're the face of CarMax out there. We need you professional with vendors, store teams, and the public.

What you need to have

A few things aren't negotiable. Here's the list.

• A valid state issued Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• At least two years of Class A CDL driving experience. If you've got military heavy or medium tactical vehicle experience, that counts too.
• A clean driving record for the last three years. No serious violations. You also have to pass our Driver Safety Evaluation.
• You must be able to qualify under all DOT & FMCSA rules.

A note for current CarMax associates

If you already work here but don't have that Class A experience yet, you can still apply if you meet a different set of marks.

• You need a valid state issued Class A CDL in hand.
• Two plus years driving a commercial motor vehicle for CarMax is required; it doesn't have to be a Class A rig.
• No preventable safety incidents in the last two years. Our Safety & Compliance Team will check this.

The day to day stuff

This isn't just sitting behind the wheel. The physical side is real.

• You'll lift heavy objects and winch cars during loading.
• You should know how to handle a 10 speed transmission proficiently.
• The work is outside in all kinds of weather. Rain, heat, cold; you're in it.
