Automotive Technician

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this job. It's for a Senior Automotive Technician at Sun Auto in Houston, TX. I've been placing techs here for a while, and they run a solid shop. They respect what you know and pay you for it. No corporate fluff; just good work on cars and a schedule that lets you have a life.

The Work

You're diagnosing and fixing cars, plain and simple. But it's the complex stuff; the heavy duty repairs that need someone who knows their way around an engine bay better than their own kitchen.

  • You'll take the Multi point Inspection or Repair Order and get it done right, with no shortcuts.
  • A big part of this is explaining what's wrong to people who aren't mechanics; maybe the store manager, a service writer, or the customer directly. You've got to translate "car" into English.
  • If you see something else the vehicle needs, you note it down properly so the customer knows.
  • Safety isn't just a poster on the wall here. You follow the procedures and speak up if something seems off.
  • The schedule has some flexibility and might include Saturdays. But you'll never work a Sunday. They're closed.

What You Need to Bring

They need someone who can walk in and handle business. Here's the checklist.

  • You need previous experience as an automotive technician or mechanic. That's required.
  • Or, if you've got the ASE certifications to back you up, that can stand in for some of that hands on time.
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory. You've gotta be at least 18.
  • A State Inspector License is needed, or you have to be able to get one within your first 30 days on the job.
  • A high school diploma or GED is the baseline. If you went to a technical school, even better.
  • Show them you know how to use the computerized diagnostic gear. It's not optional anymore.

The Pay & The Perks

This is where it gets good. They pay what you're worth.

  • The pay range is $25.00 to $45.00 per hour on a flag rate. Where you land in that bracket depends entirely on your experience and what certifications you hold.
  • You get paid every other week.
  • The benefits are real: Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance. There's company paid Life Insurance too.
  • They match contributions to the 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid vacation time and paid sick time are separate; you get both.
  • The shop is closed for six major holidays, and those are paid days off for you.
  • Want more training? They offer tuition reimbursement.
  • You and your immediate family get discounted service on your personal vehicles.
