The Job
Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital needs an Anesthesia Technician for Houston, TX. This is a full time, evening shift position. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 2:30pm to 11:00pm with rotating call.
You'll support anesthesia providers and the rest of the interprofessional healthcare team. It's a hands on role where you're directly involved with patient care before, during, and after procedures. You'll help with anesthesia related procedures, troubleshoot equipment, and set up and operate patient monitoring in all anesthetizing locations ; think OR, Cath Lab, Endoscopy, and more. You'll also work in preoperative units, post anesthesia care units, and intensive care units as needed.
What You'll Actually Do
- Set up complete operating and procedure room monitoring and anesthesia equipment. Calibrate it. Check performance before connecting to the patient.
- Clean and disinfect equipment and work areas between patients. Infection control standards apply here.
- Organize your workflow and manage priorities with minimal supervision. You'll problem solve as you go and ask for guidance when you need it.
- Report near misses and input errors into TAPS promptly. This helps improve processes and identify trends.
- Tear down and reset anesthetizing areas and work stations after each case. Monitor cables get stored neatly. Anesthesia gases get turned off. Unused supplies get restocked. Equipment goes back where it belongs.
- Collaborate with the whole team. Communicate patient care information clearly. Help out when others need it.
- Keep costs in mind. Use resources with value creation in mind. Manage your time independently.
What You Need
- High school diploma or equivalent education (GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post secondary education, etc.).
- If you're not certified, you need one year of hospital experience. If you are certified through the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists & Technicians (ASATT), no experience required.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (or AHA Instructor status).
- ASATT certification is preferred but not required.
- You need to speak, read, and write English well enough to perform the essential functions of the job ; especially anything involving patient or employee safety.
- Basic computer knowledge. You'll operate hospital and anesthesia systems plus Microsoft Office products to maintain patient documents.
- Solid organizational and problem solving skills. You should be able to prioritize multiple tasks and solve problems with minimal supervision.
- Good time management skills. You're progressing toward independence and can exercise judgment when interacting with physicians, the care team, patients, and families.
