The Job
This is a union position, represented by the Hawaii Nurses and Healthcare Professionals Bargaining Unit. You'll be based in Honolulu, HI.
What You'll Do
You're the primary nurse and total patient caregiver here. That means you own the nursing care for your patients from start to finish. You'll delegate tasks to LPNs and nursing assistive personnel, making sure everything you hand off stays within legal and regulatory guidelines. You'll also administer medications, teach special nursing tasks to LPNs and assistive staff, and verify their competency when they take on those tasks. Charge duties and preceptor responsibilities come with the role too.
- Practice professional nursing and delegate care appropriately
- Use the nursing process to plan and deliver care
- Perform any nursing task that requires your knowledge, judgment, and skill
- Act as a resource nurse for the unit
- Take charge of the unit as assigned
- Incorporate Kaiser Permanente's vision, model, and values into your daily practice
- Handle administrative duties and other tasks as needed
- Maintain your clinical expertise and competency through direct patient care
What You Need
Experience: Not required at entry, but if you're applying to an inpatient specialty like Intensive Care, you need one year of experience in that area or completion of a formal course in that specialty within a set timeframe.
Education: You must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Registered Nurse License for the state of Hawaii
- Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 12 months of hire, also from the American Heart Association
- For Ambulatory Treatment Center nurses ; PICC line certification within one year of hire and maintained after that

What They'd Like to See
- Experience working with electronic medical records
- One year of experience or a formal course in your specialty area
- Coursework in basic EKG
