About This Role

Job Overview

A Produce Specialist makes sure fruits and vegetables are top quality. You'll inspect shipments, organize displays, and keep things fresh. This role matters because shoppers rely on you for their groceries. At Greensboro, NC stores and distribution centers, the work is hands on and moves fast. You might check an apple for bruises one minute and rotate a lettuce display the next.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming produce: Check each pallet for ripeness, damage, or spoilage. Reject anything that doesn't meet the standard.
  • Rotate stock: Older items go to the front; newer ones go behind. This cuts waste and keeps everything look good.
  • Build displays: Arrange melons into pyramids or stack citrus neatly. Visual appeal drives sales.
  • Trim and clean: Remove bad leaves from lettuce or wilted tops from carrots. A quick trim can save a whole crate.
  • Help customers: Someone wants to know if that avocado will ripen in two days ; you're the person with the answer.

Requirements

You don't need special degrees here. High school diploma (or GED) is fine. Experience in grocery retail or a warehouse helps but isn't required. What you do need: solid physical stamina ; lifting 50 pound boxes happens every shift. You'll stand on your feet most of the day, so good shoes matter more than a resume page. Also important ; keeping track of multiple types of produce without mixing them up under different temperature rules.
