About This Role
What you'll actually do here
This isn't a clinic based role where you see the same patients in the same room every day. As an Advanced Practice Provider on our Specialty Care team, you'll move between inpatient and outpatient settings depending on what's needed. You'll work alongside physicians to manage patients across specialties like Cardiology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Oncology, Infectious Disease, Plastic Surgery, Pulmonary, Orthopedics, Pediatric Sub Specialty, Adolescent Medicine, Urology, Ear Nose & Throat, Physical Medicine and Rehab ; plus Obstetrics & Gynecology at ARMC and MC (no L&D).
Your days will involve performing physical assessments, digging into medical histories, interpreting diagnostic tests and results. From there you develop treatment plans specific to each patient's needs. You'll conduct preventive health screenings based on age and history. You also educate patients and families about their condition and what follow up looks like. And yes ; it includes performing specialty care medical procedures within your scope of practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Assess patients through physical exams and medical history review
- Interpret diagnostic test results to guide treatment planning
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with other healthcare professionals
- Conduct preventive health screenings tailored to patient age and risk factors
- Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatment plans, follow up care
- Perform specialty care medical procedures per departmental guidelines
- Maintain accurate records of all patient encounters
- Identify ways to improve clinical and system issues in both inpatient and outpatient care
- Other duties as assigned ; this list isn't airtight
What you need to qualify
The education bar is a Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies. There's one exception: if you were employed as a PA at Cone Health before October 14 2024 and have maintained that employment with licensure and board certification while holding only a Bachelor's degree ; that requirement is waived.
Experience:
- None required going in ; we'll train the right person
- 3+ years preferred but not mandatory; we'd love someone who hits the ground running though it isn't deal breaker if they don't have it yet
Licenses & Certifications:
- A valid NC RN license with Nurse Midwife or NP license OR a valid NC PA license ; pick your lane
- Board certified within 1 year of hire via NCCPA for PAs OR via ANCC / NCC for NPs OR via AMCB / AANP / PNCB for other NPs or midwives – same time frame applies no matter which path you take
Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol certification required specifically for Neonatal Advanced Practice Providers – skip this if that isn't your area
If working in Behavioral Health as an APP IVC certified within 90 days of employment start date
BLS certification from American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider required – both are acceptable choices here with no expiration date preference noted either way so either works just fine
Wait I messed up formatting above let me fix that cleanup sentence now written cleaner below:
- Valid NC RN + Nurse Midwife or NP license OR valid NC PA license
- Board certified within 1 year of hire by NCCPA (PA) OR ANCC/NCC (NP) OR AMCB/AANP/PNCB (NP/midwife)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol certification required specifically for Neonatal providers only
- IVC certified within 90 days of hire if working Behavioral Health
- BLS (CPR) from American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
