About This Role

The Role

PetSmart wants someone to take shared responsibility for running a store in Greensboro, NC. You're not just managing tasks; you're accountable for the whole operational picture. That means merchandising, inventory, pet care, opening and closing the store, leading the team, hitting financial targets, and keeping everything safe and organized. It's a lot, but it's real ownership.

What You'll Actually Do

Leading People
  • You'll be part of the hiring process, from recruiting and interviewing to coaching.
  • Make sure associates are trained across the whole store, get onboarded properly, and have regular reviews. That includes mentoring, succession planning, and holding people accountable.
  • Handle associate complaints and grievances when they come up.
  • Decide what tasks get done each day and who does them, so the business works and pet parents get what they need.
  • Teach associates the right operational processes, especially to keep pets safe and healthy.
  • Figure out staffing for key areas: pet care, hotel cleaning, salon cleaning, you name it.
  • Check that operational messages and engagement videos are completed and understood.
  • Share company news and priorities with the team so everyone's on the same page.
  • Catch people doing great work and celebrate it openly.
Running the Store
  • You're accountable for the health of every pet in the store. That means overseeing pet care maintenance, receiving new pets, and making sure feeding, watering, and cleaning standards are met for birds, reptiles, small animals, crickets, and fish aquariums. You also handle sick pets.
  • Inventory management falls to you: accuracy, receiving, stocking, restocking, counting live and non live inventory, product rotations, and getting planograms set on time and in an organized way.
  • Look for ways to improve operations and services constantly.
  • Keep vendor relationships strong, maintain backroom standards, and keep communication boards current.
  • Oversee the Buy Online Pick Up In Store and Ship From Store programs.
  • Watch sales trends and react with merchandising moves.
  • Make smart decisions about discretionary space and discontinued merchandise.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and compliance with Policies & Procedures and the Code of Ethics.
  • Ensure a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents. If a sick or injured pet is found, you act immediately and report it.
  • Share responsibility for opening and closing the store, and handle general and escalated pet parent concerns.
Managing Expenses
  • Find ways to grow the business and hold the team accountable for hitting P&L targets like sales and shrink.
  • Analyze inventory reports to see what's working and what's not.
  • Manage expenses like labor and supplies, plus any other metrics that matter.
  • Work with Home Office partners to submit and follow up on work orders and purchase card allocations.

What You Need

  • Three or more years of retail leadership or customer focused experience.
  • Full time availability, with a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Comfortable with computers and common software.
  • You communicate clearly, both in writing and in person.
  • You stay steady under pressure and don't lose your cool.
  • You're organized and pay close attention to detail, especially when it comes to keeping the store looking sharp.
  • You'll typically oversee up to three lead associates and their teams.

Benefits That Actually Matter

  • Paid weekly.
  • Health and wellness benefits.
  • 401k plan with a company match.
  • Paid time off for full time associates.
  • Discounts on everything in the store.
  • Tuition assistance if you want to keep learning.
  • Clear paths for career growth and development.
