It's not just about crunching numbers; it's about making sure the department runs smoothly and our financial footing is solid. You'd be the one steering that ship.
What you'll be doing
You're in charge of the accounting department's day to day. That means you own everything from payables and receivables to payroll, the general ledger, and treasury functions.
- Manage all the core operations: processing cash receipts, running check runs, handling fixed asset and debt activity, and reconciling capital assets.
- You'll monitor our accounting data, analyze it, and produce our financial reports and statements.
- A big part of the job is establishing and enforcing our accounting methods, policies, and principles.
- Coordinating and wrapping up our annual audits falls to you.
- We need you to meet our financial accounting objectives consistently.
- Setting up fiscal files and records to properly document every transaction is key.
- We're always looking to improve; you'll identify where we can get better with systems and procedures and then make those corrective actions happen.
- You'll also oversee all our regulatory reporting. That includes tax planning and making sure we're fully compliant.
The background we need
This isn't an entry level gig. We need someone who's been in the trenches for a while and knows how to lead a team through the complexities of corporate finance.
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required. A related field might work if your experience is directly on point.
- You need at least five years of hands on accounting experience. A significant chunk of that should involve managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
- A strong, working understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) is non negotiable.
- You should have direct experience with corporate governance rules and business tax regulations.
- Be proficient with standard accounting software. And you really need to know your way around Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
The person for the job
The technical stuff matters, but so does how you operate. We're looking for a specific kind of professional to lead this team.
- Excellent management skills are a must; you'll be supervising people directly.
- We need someone with outstanding problem solving abilities who can analyze complex situations clearly. - You have to communicate financial information effectively, both in writing and verbally, even when explaining things to colleagues who aren't finance experts. - Integrity is everything. You must have a high level of personal ethics and a firm commitment to client confidentiality. - Things move quickly here sometimes.
